Summer GRA Needed, Open to tribal students

“Perceptions of Change” Summer Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) Position.

Dr Corrie Knapp is recruiting two summer GRAs to explore how Tribal agricultural producers are experiencing social and environmental changes on the Wind River Indian Reservation. This project is supported by the Wind River Water Resources Control Board as they are interested to see the results of the research as it applies to tribal ranchers and farmers. Research will involve interviews where Tribal agricultural operators are able to share their stories of change. Activities will include contacting Tribal agricultural operators, conducting and recording interviews, transcribing interviews, and helping to analyze interview responses. The intention is for these stories to inform the Wind River Water Resources Control Board about water availability and use during water-short years.

She is recruiting two graduate students with experience in agriculture, oral communication, and preferably with some research experience. Preference will be given to one Northern Arapaho student and one Eastern Shoshone student. Although students currently attending the University of Wyoming are preferred, graduate students from other institutions are also encouraged to apply. The outcome will be an oral presentation and short report for the Wind River Water Resources Control Board, and potentially a conference presentation.

This position is funded through the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCCASC) and the Wyoming Anticipating Climate-Water Transitions Project (WyACT), and in partnership with University of Wyoming Extension. The position pays $18-20/hour and will be part time in May and full time in June/July/August. Work will be conducted on the reservation with minimal supervision. The student must have access to transportation and internet, be independently motivated, and comfortable with travelling to interviewees. Funds are available for interview travel, presenting at a professional conference, and attending the NCCASC meeting in June 2026. Please submit a cover letter and resume to Dr. Corrie Knapp (cknapp4@uwyo.edu) by April 30, 2026.
