Steven Tillman

Steven Tillman, 69, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Casper, Wyoming at the Wyoming Medical Center. A viewing and wake will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Rocky Mountain Hall. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Rock Mountain Hall with burial to follow at Sacajawea Cemetery.

Steven Tillman was born on November 30, 1956, , at the Tillman Ranch in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. He was the son of Francis Tillman and Dannie Tillman (Soonup).

Steven grew up on his family’s ranch, where he spent his life surrounded by the land he loved. From an early age, he enjoyed riding motorcycles through the fields and hills of the ranch and later developed a passion for building motorcycles as well. As a young man, Steven hunted and fished and helped his father prepare for the winter months by chopping wood and hauling water.

A skilled auto mechanic, Steven was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need. He enjoyed listening to powwow and Sundance music and remained deeply connected to his cultural traditions. Steven faithfully assisted his uncle, Charles Soonup, by praying for the rafter poles and center pole and helping put up the Sundance Lodge, he was called a Lodge Builder. He was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Steven was actively involved with the Eastern Shoshone Entertainment Committee in the 1970s and was a drummer and singer for the drum group Big Wind. He also crafted staffs and spears for the movie American Primeval. Family was at the heart of Steven’s world, and he took great pride in caring for those he loved.

Steven is survived by his sisters, Pearl Tillman, Linda Tillman, and Donna Tillman; nephews, Dale Tillman, Windin Tillman, and Terri Tillman; niece, Britanni Soonup; and grandchildren, Paige Tillman, Matias Soonup, Faith Wallowingbull, and Mira Soonup.

Steven Tillman leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
